  1. Community Support Shop

    Wokingham Borough Council

    The Community Support Shop is based at Alexandra Place and Ashwani Gupta (Community Development Worker) welcomes local residents to drop in to discuss needs, issues and concerns.

    • Healthy lifestyle activities such as Zumba Gold  
    • Supports the South East Woodley Community Association
    • Small courses are run from the shop (e.g. Henna Course)
    • Works in partnership with Alexandra Place, Emmanuel Church and Christ Church

  2. Acorn Community Centre: Day Centre, cafe and sensory garden

    Cafe open Tuesday to Friday 09:30am to 2pm. Please see our Facebook page for seasonal holiday closures.

     

    Acorn Centre

    The Acorn Community Centre is located next to Woosehill Medical Centre on Fernlea Drive. The Centre is home to the Optalis Learning Disabilities Day Centre, and the Acorn café and garden are open to the public. We have meeting rooms and a small hall available to hire for evenings and weekends.

    The café is open Tuesdays to Fridays 09:30am to 2pm for hot and cold drinks, snacks and light lunches.

    Come and enjoy a coffee, have a look round our Sensory Garden and buy a pot plant or two from our Growing Places project. We would love to see you!

  3. The Community House, Finchampstead: support with housing enquiries and activities opportunities

    The Community House is open during advertised sessions and at other times that change each week - please get in touch to find out this week's opening times.

    The Community House is in the heart of Finchampstead. The Community Engagement Workers based within Finchampstead are Simon Ingle and Mark Tomkinson. The Community House hosts a number of regular and one off events for local residents.

    If you have an idea for a community event or group but are not quite sure how to do it, then we want to hear from you. We can help you to build the community that you want to live in. Our door is always open, just drop in for a chat and a drink. 

    Events and activities regular schedule:

    • Monday: Housing Drop In - 9.30am to 11am
    • Monday: Tea and Tales 2pm until 3:30pm
    • Wednesday: Finchampstead Community Trips - Leaving at 9.30am. Returning at 2pm approx. Alternate weeks.

  4. Shinfield Rise Community Flat: support with housing enquiries, activities and learning opportunities

    Shinfield Rise Community Flat

    The Shinfield Rise Community Flat opened it's doors in November 2012. Since then we have been running a basic programme, which includes Housing Surgeries, local Have Your Say Meetings, and Drop-In Surgeries with local Borough and Parish Councillors. 
    We also run several events and activities.

    We really need ideas and suggestions from the community, as to what they want to see happening moving forward, all suggestions are welcome as we want to deliver the right services and activities to suit the local needs of residents in Shinfield Rise.

  5. Rainbow Community and Children's Centre, Winnersh

    Rainbow Community Centre

    The Rainbow Community and Children's Centre aims to serve the Winnersh community.

    The community building is maintained by Wokingham Borough Council. Events and activities are arranged by Wokingham Borough Council, Winnersh Children's Centre and the Centre Forward Community Action Group, a voluntary organisation run by local residents.  

    The Rainbow Community Centre is also the venue of the Winnersh Children's Centre.

    Types of activities available at the centre:

    • 2 sessions of Short Mat Bowls per week (run by Centre Forward Community Group)
    • Minibus Trips (run by Centre Forward Community Group)
    • Breast Feeding Network -breastfeeding support is available here fortnightly on Wednesday mornings-appointments should be pre-booked by emailing wokingham@breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk (during term time)
    • Share-this is currently held on Wednesdays between 1pm and 2pm.

    Share is a charity who aim to support the community with fresh food including bread and other items which would ordinarily be wasted and are either surplus stock or end of day items from supermarkets.

    From the 11th January 2023 SHARE are asking you to Pay It Forward in the form of a £1 donation. If you do not have £1 you are still able to access SHARE. There is a 1 bag limit in place to try to ensure that there is enough food for all that attend, however you are very welcome to return at the end of the session to take more of the fresh items that are left.

    • Play and Learn session on Tuesday mornings run by the Children's Centre. This starts at 10am and does not currently need to be booked in advance. 
    • We have also launched the Sunflower Club. The Sunflower Club is for over 50's who would like to meet socially. If you are feeling lonely and looking for a way of meeting others this club is for you. We meet fortnightly on Wednesday mornings from 10am to 11.30am, informally for coffee and cake/biscuits. 
    • We have also recently started to run the Winnersh Youth Club for children aged 8yrs-12yrs old with Berkshire Youth, funded by Winnersh Parish Council. This runs on a Wednesday during term time from 5.30pm-7pm. Sessions are 50p. Please note a parent/carer will need to bring their child to the first session to fill out a registration form.
    • We also have the NEET Elevate team at the centre on Monday and Friday mornings-if you are 16-18 (or up to 24yrs SEND) and would like help to explore career options then you can book an appointment with them by emailing elevate@wokingham.gov.uk or calling 07710 117650.

    If you are attending the centre in order to be respectful to our neighbours, please park in the centre car park-if this is full and you are unsure of where to park please speak to a member of staff.
