Home Refuge Scheme - free service for anyone suffering domestic abuse

Wokingham Borough Council

The Home Refuge Scheme is a free and service for anyone suffering domestic abuse and wanting to remain in their home when the perpetrator is no longer living in the property. It is a voluntary scheme which can provide security measures such as flap lock letter boxes and self-adhesive window alarms, to help you feel safer in your home. It is a non-emergency scheme and is not for urgent matters. The scheme does not deal with housing or tenancy enquiries or emergency accommodation, such as refuges.

Any target hardening equipment added installed at the property cannot guarantee safety and security for the property itself or for those living at the property. In the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by us, you are responsible for using any installed target hardening equipment safely and as directed. The use of any installed target hardening equipment is entirely at your own risk. No liability is to be placed upon the Council and the Council will not be liable for any defects in the target hardening equipment, in its workmanship, installation nor its design.

Please note that if your home is a joint tenancy property or is jointly owned we will not be able to install any measures which may prevent the other party from accessing the property.

Wokingham DASS is an integrated domestic abuse service that can offer support and is run by Cranstoun. Visit the Cranstoun website for further information.

(Please note: When completing the Home Refuge referral form please save the form to your phone/laptop first. You'll then be able to edit and email it to us.)
