Local Offer Description

Local Offer last reviewed 16/07/2018

1. How does the childminder identify children with additional needs or SEND ?

When a child begins at my setting we arrange a few settling in sessions for the child to build a relationship with me and feel secure. If a child has any additional needs they can be discussed with the child's parents and look at a support plan so we can work together to support that child.

This may include calling in other health care professionals to supports the child's needs. I contact the local authority and they make arrangements for meetings with parents and i to support the child and the family

Using the EYFS i will support the child and the family by looking at suitable targets, track their learning and recording using observations. This will help me to see what support we need to put into place.

2. How will I be informed / included about the ways in which my child is being supported ?

I will speak to the parents on a daily basis and plan meetings so we can support the family and the child. When we work together we can ensure progress is made and the right support is put into place.

Meetings at evenings or weekends can be arranged to allow quieter meeting times to discuss the child's progress.

3. How will the childminder adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child?s needs ?

I always adapt my activity I am doing to ensure all children are able to be included and have fun. This would be the same situation for a child with additional needs.

If I needed extra support or advice I will put the steps into place to do this. I do my up most to support all children who are in my care.

4. What additional support does the childminder provide for children with additional needs or SEND ?

I can access other professionals that can support myself, family and the child with any additional needs. This can be done through Wokingham council or a drop in clinic as a local Sure Start centre. Any services that could help I will discuss with parents/carer.

I am willing to attend extra training courses and meetings that will further my knowledge and help support the family and child.

All advise given will be used in planning and assessing for that child.

I am currently attending Autisum awareness coures to support a child i am looking after.

5. How will the childminder monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this ?

I have a learning journey for each child in my setting which has weekly observations on each child. Every 3-4 months i assess where i feel the children are at and this helps me identify any extra help needed in any EYFS area.

I send the learning journeys home on a termly basis for parents and children to enjoy looking through together. They are given a feedback form where they are able to add comments if they wish.

Children with additonal needs has support from the local authority and with parents permission i share their progress with them so they can offer the right support

6. How does the childminder ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips ?

I have risk assessments in place that can aid me in assessing suitable situations for all children. I would re assess any outings and adapt to make them suitable for all children regardless of age/stage/ability/additional need.

I would ask for extra help if needed to allow every child to take part in the activity/outing.

Asking parents for advise on outing will make sure everyone is happy and safe.

7. How accessible is the childminder?s home for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users ?

My house has a ramp up to access the front door. The doors are wide to allow access through to the kitchen. I would be able to put ramps in to allow access to playroom and into garden.

There is lots of space for a child to move around the room safely.

If a child had hearing impairments I would attend courses to help me with signing/ Makaton.

Provide resources for families to take home if needed.

8. How will the childminder contribute to my child?s transition to a new setting or school ?

When the child is ready to move onto another setting or school I would work together with them to plan visits with the child and talk to the staff and pass on any information that will support the child to help ease a smooth transition.

I will pass on the assessments and observations that I have completed on the child to the new setting so they can support the child at the correct level.

I will reassure the family and child throughout the process to help the transition go smoothly.

9. How does the childminder assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation ?

I am always assessing my setting and effectiveness of my risk assessments, policies and procedures and planning. I send out termly questionnaires so parents can have comments and views on my setting and what things I could do to improve it. I always try to make changes where needed.

10. What should I do if I am considering registering for a place with this childminder ?

Parents can arrange a visit to come meet me and see my setting to see if it suits them and their child.

If they choose to take the space another meeting is planned to complete all the relevant paperwork and contracts and settling in sessions are arranged. This is to secure the place and everyone is happy with the arrangement.

11. What arrangements does the childminder have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints ?

I send out termly/ yearly questionnaires and feedback forms to gather information from the parents about my setting. This helps me to evaluate my provision and look at the way I do things. It gives parents the opportunity to give compliments about what they are happy with, which makes me happy, that I am providing a service that we are all happy with.

I would hope all parents would be able to discuss with me any complaints they may have and they can be resolved by talking them through. If they feel they need to take their complaint further they can contact OFSTED which is explained in my complaints procedure in my policy folder. Here they can find the relevant contact details and email address
