COVID-19 Update
Swallowfield Pre-School aims to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission amongst its staff, children and families and those associated with the Pre-School, whilst providing a fun, safe environment for the children in our care to play and learn.
We ask all families and those in contact with the Pre-School to:
- Follow Government Guidelines regarding COVID-19
- Maintain social distances, practice good hygiene, wear masks as directed
- Use test and trace facilities when requested to do so, and/or in line with Government advice
- Notify the Pre-School of any suspected COVID-19 symptoms, confirmed cases of the disease and any/all vulnerabilities
- Notify the Pre-School regarding any travel to any place with lockdown and/or quarantine restrictions in place
- Follow quarantine instructions when required
In addition to following Government guidelines, we use good judgement for our individual setting. We have policies and procedures in place relating to operating and have revised cleaning and hygiene schedules to take account of the pandemic; measures include increased hand washing, sanitising resources and the environment and quarantining resources.
We operate as a single ‘bubble’ involving all children and staff; this means we are able to continue to offer a full range of resources and activities in all sessions.
Pre-School:parent/carer contact is maintained via regular email updates, postings to a Closed Facebook page and socially distanced conversations outside.

Description
Located at Swallowfield Parish Hall, Swallowfield Pre-school has been established for around 45 years, and has seen generations of families from local villages benefit from the teaching, social and community aspects of the Group.
The Pre-School has a number of aims including the provision of an open, friendly, safe and positive environment in which local children and families can come to play, learn, prepare for school and make friends. The Pre-School is run by a committee of elected parents, with a dedicated staff of qualified childcare and teaching professionals, and promotes a policy of equal opportunity for both children and staff and welcomes special needs individuals.
We welcome children from ages 2 1/2 to rising 5 and take them on a journey of discovery through to their transition to primary school.
The Pre-School operates mornings only: 09h15-12h30 (Monday to Friday). We offer a wide variety of learning through play experiences including freely selective play and adult led activities, providing outdoor and indoor play in all sessions.
Children are offered a healthy snack and parents are asked to provide a packed lunch. Parents/Carers are asked to participate in a parent rota approximately once each half term. We are a community focused charity and rely on parents to get involved with and support our fund raising activities, the proceeds of which enhance the learning experiences of the children in our care.
The Pre-School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum which contains the following Areas of Learning and Development, in preparing children for school:
- Communication & Language
- Literacy
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Mathematics
- Understanding of the World
- Physical Development
- Expressive Art & Design
Within the Pre-School, all children are supported in developing their potential at their own pace. They are encouraged to make choices and decisions about what they want to do, thus increasing their self-esteem and developing self-confidence.
