Local Offer - Support available for children and young people with additional needs
Local Offer last reviewed 23/03/2018
1. How does the childminder identify children with additional needs or SEND ?
All chidren are observed in line with the EYFS
A 2 year old development check is carried out and shared with parents and any concerns regarding their development will be discussed.
A yearly progress check is carried out and shared withn the parents.
I will have a discussion with parents of any new children starting with me to enable me to identify the starting point of their childs learning journey
2. How will I be informed / included about the ways in which my child is being supported ?
Communication with parents informing them of their childs development will be ongoing.
A daily diary is sent home every day.
The yearly progress check is completed following discussions with parents and any concerns discussed and if necessary an agreed plan of action put into place. I will liaise with the parents concerned directly { face to face, text, phone, daily diary or email } in the way they wish.
3. How will the childminder adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child?s needs ?
I use Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum as a guide for each childs development.
All curriculum planning is based around the childs own strengths and needs.
Assessments are made to highlight areas of devlopment that need to be focused on and also their individual next steps.
Each child is treated as an individual.
4. What additional support does the childminder provide for children with additional needs or SEND ?
If a child is not making progress I can access further support from the local Early Years Team or seek madvice from other professionals.
All the childrens centres offer diffrerent support groups.
Any support activities will be discussed with the parents.
5. How will the childminder monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this ?
I will monitor your child through observations and parents will be kept informed about your childs progress and achievements.
Your child will have a daily diary and their individual folder containing continual observations and assessments.
Photos are used as a way of sharing your child's day.
Meeting can be arranged at a convenient time or chat during drop off or pickup.
All concerns are shared firstly with the parent and with agreement I will seek further advice from other professionals.
6. How does the childminder ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips ?
I have an inclusive service and it is extended to all activities both indoors and outdoors where appropriate.
All trips are risk assessed taking into consideration all children in my care.
Trips are planned with your own childs needs accounted for.
7. How accessible is the childminder?s home for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users ?
Access through the front door has a step going inside and to the rear of the property there is another step going out.
I have no wheel chair access.
The ground floor of the house is mainly used for childminding with toilet facilities downstairs but have not got disabled facilities.
My doorways in the house may not be wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair.
8. How will the childminder contribute to my child?s transition to a new setting or school ?
I have a settling in period where your child would make a few visits before they start this gives me the opportunity to meet you both properly.
The settling in period gives your child opportunities to become familiarand comfortable with me caring for them and also meet other children in my care. This process will hopefully enable them tom feel comfortable and confident in their new surroundings.
For children moving on to primary school setting teachers will come and visit your child in the home environment, they are also welcome to visit your child in my home if they wish and with your written consent they can access your childs development folder.
9. How does the childminder assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation ?
I monitor progress of your child via the assessments I make. I will access additional training if needed.
I will discuss what I am providing and how withn the parents on an ongoing basis, to ensure the best outcome for the child.
10. What should I do if I am considering registering for a place with this childminder ?
You are welcome to visit my setting and discuss your requirements in more detail.
I can be contacted on 07887992201
Monday - Friday 8.00 - 6.00
11. What arrangements does the childminder have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints ?
I explain the complaints procedure to all new parents.
Any compliments or feedback can be written in the childs daily diary
