The Children's Trust
We are the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury and neurodisability. Our national specialist centre is in Tadworth, Surrey, where we provide rehabilitation to children with acquired brain injury and specialist medical/transitional care to children with complex health needs. We also run The Children’s Trust School, a non-maintained residential special school in Tadworth for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and complex health needs. Our other services include expert community-based support for children with acquired brain injury and online support for families via our Brain Injury Hub website.
The Children's Trust has created a handbook for teenagers affected by acquired brain injury, Me and My Brain which can be ordered online.

All our facilities are fully accessible. Staff ensure each child participates to the best of their ability in decision making, their individual timetable, and play and leisure activities. We use a range of communication aids to enable all children to participate even if they are non-verbal. Please feel free to contact us in advance to discuss your specific needs and we will work with you to resolve any access issues as far as possible.

Our residential brain injury rehabilitation service caters for children aged 0-18 who have a brain injury through a variety of reasons, such as an accident or illness. The Children’s Trust School accepts learners aged 3 and upwards who have profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex health needs. Our transitional care for children who are technology-dependent caters for young people aged up to 19 who are medically stable and able to use our facilities as part of their pathway as they prepare to return home.

All staff and volunteers are required to complete and pass DBS prior to commencement of employment or placement. Our services are regulated by Ofsted and CQC, and we have robust safeguarding and whistleblowing procedures to ensure the safety of the children and young people we work with.
Safety is of paramount importance to us and ratios of staff to children are worked out in accordance with their needs. Our site is secure with all of our residential houses featuring keypad entry and all visitors must be supervised onsite. Whilst we encourage the children and young people to access play and leisure activities and the local community, this is fully-staffed and always with risk assessments having been carried out.
Each child has their own assessment and tailored programmes/timetables which cater for their individual needs. We are inspected by Ofsted and CQC as well as carrying out our own ongoing monitoring including feedback from staff, families and children where possible.

We have an unparalleled reputation in our field thanks to our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of these children and their families, coupled with our ability to deliver the best possible combination of nursing, therapy, medical care and education. Staff undertake continuing professional development both in-house and externally and are fully trained to meet the diverse needs of the children we work with. All staff undertake safeguarding training and first aid training is completed as required.
