Eva Simmons - childminder service
I have been an Ofsted registered childminder since 2005. During which I have cared for children ranging from 9 months to 10+ years. I currently care for children ages between 24 months and 10+years in a homely environment where children feel safe and secure. Moreover, parents are reassured that their children will be professionally looked after whilst in my care. I am patient and caring and aim to encourage individual children to learn according to their stage of development and ability.
Children are cared for, in a homely, secure and stimulating environment. I am flexible and aim to accommodate each family individual needs and develop good working relationship with parents. I engage children in varied activities both at home and through visit to local parks, library, children centres etc.
I provide fun and stimulating learning activities, I observe children learning and record each child’s learning developments which enables their next steps and planning activities. I take particular interest in the importance of play and its influence on child development. I have a level 3 playwork in early years and childcare.
My Recent OFSTED inspection in 2019, I was graded Outstanding.
I am qualified as an Early Years Teacher Standards (EYTS).

1. How does the childminder identify children with additional needs or SEND ?
All children are observed in line with the EYFS
A 2 year old developmental check is carries out and shared with parents and any concerns regarding their development will be discussed.
New children starting my setting are identifies through discussions with parents and any other professional involves with the family. This will enable me to identify the starting point of your child's learning journey.
2. How will I be informed / included about the ways in which my child is being supported ?
Parent will receive a termly report informing them of their child’s development. Ongoing discussion with the parent of any other development that may occur.
3. How will the childminder adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child?s needs ?
I used Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum as a guide for each child’s development.
All curriculum planning is based around the child own strengths and needs, using observations as a starting point to assess what they can do. All planning is individual tailored to the child's development and interests. Assessments are made to highlight areas of development that need to be focused on and also their individual next steps.
4. What additional support does the childminder provide for children with additional needs or SEND ?
If a child is not making progress I can access further support from the Local Early Years Team or seek advice from other professionals. All the children centres offer different support group. Any support activities will be discussed with the parents.
5. How will the childminder monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this ?
Through observations your child will be monitored and parents will be kept informed about your child progress and achievements.
Through daily diaries and their individual folders containing continual observations and assessment, which will be use to inform the planning. Photos are used as a way of sharing your child’s day. Meeting can be arranged at a convenient time or chat during drop off or pickup.
All concern are firstly shared with the parents and with agreement I will seek further advice from other professionals. I can also suggest activities for you to do with your child at home.
6. How does the childminder ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips ?
I have an inclusive service and it is extended to all activities both indoors and outdoors where appropriate.
Before any trip I seek parents advice as you have the most-up-date and relevant knowledge and information concerning your child needs and requirements. All trips are risk-assessed taking into consideration all children in my care. Trips are planned with your child's needs accounted for. My inclusion policy is always put into practice.
7. How accessible is the childminder?s home for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users ?
I work from my home in a mid-terrace house. Access through the front door has a small step going inside or outside of the front or rear of the property. I have no wheel chair access. The ground floor of the house is mainly used for childminding. Toilet facilities are upstairs which has not got disable facilities. My doorway may not be wide enough for a full size wheel chair.
8. How will the childminder contribute to my child?s transition to a new setting or school ?
I have a settling in policy where new children are invited to attend before they start, this give the opportunity for parent to meet each other and to get to know your both better. it also create a good environments for future discussions. Most importantly the settling in periods gives your child opportunities to become familiar and comfortable with me caring for them and also to meet other children in my care, and my family members. This process enable them to feel comfortable and confident in their new surroundings
For children moving onto primary school or other setting, transitions are supported in the same way. Setting teachers will come and visit the child in the home environments. They are also welcome to visit the child in my home setting if they wish and with your written permission they can access your child's development folder.
Each child will have the opportunity to visit their school on more than one occasion before starting a new setting.
9. How does the childminder assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation ?
No answer given
10. What should I do if I am considering registering for a place with this childminder ?
I welcome parent to visit my setting and discuss enquiry in more details.
I can be contacted on 0738 362 2408.
11. What arrangements does the childminder have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints ?
I have a complaints procedure which details the specific way that a parent/carer may make a complaint.
All formal feedback, including compliments, is recorded.
